How to Cut Your Pallet-Wrapping Costs (Without Weaker Loads)
Pallet wrap is one of those quiet costs that adds up fast across hundreds of pallets a month. The good news: most warehouses are overspending, and a few simple changes cut the bill without ever risking a load. Here are six.
1. Match the film to the load (stop over-wrapping)
The single biggest waste is using more wraps than a load needs, or using a thin film that forces extra passes. Match the micron and film type to your actual loads and you'll use noticeably less per pallet.
2. Switch to a thicker, stickier film
It seems counter-intuitive, but a thicker, stickier (blown) film often costs less per pallet — because each wrap holds more, so you need fewer of them. Fewer passes, less film, same secure load.
3. Buy by the pallet, not the box
Pallet wrap gets dramatically cheaper per roll as you buy more. Ordering a full pallet (or two) instead of a box or two can cut your per-roll price by 20–30%. If you have the storage, bulk buying is the easiest saving there is.
4. Use the right width
Wider film (500mm vs 400mm) covers more of the load with each pass, so big or bulky pallets need fewer wraps. Matching width to load size saves both film and time.
5. Consider machine film for high volumes
If you're wrapping a lot of pallets by hand, a wrapping machine with pre-stretch film pays for itself fast. Machine film can stretch up to 300%, using far less plastic per pallet — a big saving at volume.
6. Cut delivery and account costs
Don't forget the hidden costs. Free delivery, bulk discounts and a trade account with payment terms all reduce what you actually pay. We offer free UK delivery on all products, bulk pricing and 30-day trade accounts.
Common questions
How can I use less pallet wrap per load?
Use a thicker, stickier film so each wrap holds more (fewer passes needed), match the film width to your load size, and avoid over-wrapping stable loads. Pre-stretch machine film uses the least plastic per pallet.
Is it cheaper to buy pallet wrap in bulk?
Yes — significantly. The per-roll price drops as you buy more, so ordering by the pallet instead of the box can cut costs by 20–30%. Free delivery and trade accounts reduce the total further.
